Babies and their Litter Tray Diary The set up is as it was for the last test. Top Cage (Phoenix the Peruvian Boar) Bottom Cage (Ivy and Princess the Texel Sows) I will have new photos of them for you all tomorrow night. It would have been today but I have been run off my feet for the last three days. Which is why this is a day later than I said it would be. (I am sorry for that but piggies and my little girl do come before getting the time to type). Not much to say for the first day as both cages are still getting used to the change. And not one of them has been in the trays that I have given them. I am hoping that i will have more on them tomorrow. So just their baby photos for you all for now. Tanya Phoenix at two days old They are so cute. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: Tanya also has a litter tray diary for adult guinea pigs here. -- PigPog xx

Litter Tray Diary - Baby and Young Guineas Day One Top Cage Sorry but not much to say as he has not got a clue yet but it is only day one. Bottom Cage We have a substitution as one of the sows is ill so i have had to put them in to the medical cage. ( this is one that i keep in the house for piggies that are not well and need to be kept an eye on.) So the sow cage will how have two Peruvian sows in it. They are Cosette D.O.B 29/03/2008 and Tilly D.O.B 25/02/2008. Due to the Texels getting ill i have not had the time to take any photos today but i will do my best to do them tomorrow. Tanya

Litter Tray Diary - Baby and Young Guineas Day Three Top Cage Phoenix Well he has bit of an odd day. i think that he knows what the tray is for and is just being a silly little piggie as he has been in it for poos today but then pushes them out with his nose. Not too sure what he is thinking there.
Bottom Cage Tilly & Cosette I have to put lots of poos back in to the tray today. But have to say that there have been lots get there by piggies placing. Tilly seems to be doing more in the tray then Cosette.
Next update 22/04/2008 Tanya PS I was 32 today and boy do i feel old LOL

Litter Tray Diary - Baby and Young Guineas Day Four Just a short one to day as both cages seem to have got it. they are doing 99.9% of P&Ws in the tray but need to test it for the next day or to see if i am right. It is looking like you can tran young piggies to use a tray. The boar is doing the best but then he is one day ahead of the girls. the girls seem to be doing one or two of there Wees out of the tray so lets see now they get on tomorrow. next update 23/04/2008 Tanya PS can you all let me know if you still would like me to see if you can tran a herd to use them.

Good progress being made by the sound of it I think this whole experiment has been extremely useful and enlightening - not to mention amusing I for one would like to see how you get on with a herd - but of course Tanya, that really depends on how you feel about it (time and enthusiasm etc). It seems to me that time and money could be saved by the use of litter trays, given that the cost of the tray itself would initially need to be offset against any savings on the bedding front. And anyway, I look forward to reading the Diary.........

I think this is very interesting and I'd like to see more babies being tested with trays to get a wider selection of results.
