We probably are going to get some guinea pigs in November. They would be kept outside in a hutch, but it would be winter and i fear they would die at their young age. Are there any other ways of protecting them?

Hi Shannonkiera ;D
You have come to the right place for advice.
I don't feel able to answer your query myself but we do have experienced members who pop in and out of the forum on a regular basis. I suspect you won't have too long to wait ;D
In the meantime, if you click onto the GPRWA website (link top right hand side on forum front page) there is a section on sheds etc which you may find helpful.

I would suggest fleece bedding or fleece blankets/beds. That way they can curl right under and get warm and cozy. Also fill a sock with rice...and then heat it up for a little bit and then set it in there. It will act like a little heating pad. Stuffed animals or anything like that I think would help also.

If you are going to have them outside when they are young as you say then you will need to buy them a hutch cover. If they are under 20 weeks old then they to young and will need to be inside. unless they have lived out side all summer. So if I were you i would have them in the house or in a shed or wait till next spring. Hope that this is of help. Tanya

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions! ;D You have all been very helpful, I only signed up today and this website is so friendly! I have just discovered that i could probably put the hutch in this Wendy house that my sister never plays with in the winter and then also with a hutch cover and fleece bedding. Would that be enough? Also, it might sound stupid but how do you heat up the sock with rice? Thank you again!

I was online looking at hutches, and i found this heat pad thing that you microwave, is that ok or is it too hot for them, they would probably still be quite young
