What are the guidelines about leaving piggies out in the rain? A couple of weeks ago my boys were out enjoying the grass and we had a light shower and I didnt notice till it was over , but the boys were in their nylon tunnel which is rather like a tent, and waterproof, and the ground wasnt wet. Today I got them in just before we had a terrific downpour, and I just wondered whether it was bad for them to be caught in the rain, or to eat wet grass, or get their feet wet or whatever.......

I'd like to know this too Es. Mine were caught in shower too the other day although the majority choose not to take cover and just continued to graze. Greedy lot lol

I think they may be alright for the light shower and such if they had some covering to hide under. The downpour may be a slight concern. I would be concerned with the downpour and dampness that they may catch a cold or something. Not totally sure but just my thought.

Ok i would have to say that it is bad of them as they are good at getting colds and more likely to get one if out in the rain. As for the ones that were in the nylon tunnel as you say it is waterproof so they will be ok. It happens and piggies do get over it just do what i did when some of my piggies got rained on last year, hug them love them and tell them that you are sorry and that it will never happen again, And then next time that it happens blam the wether man. If mine get caught in the rain I prefer to dry their paws (yes I know, I'm a sucker ) before putting them back in their hutches. If they get really soggy then bring them in and dry them off with a warm towel, and give them some veg that you've warmed up to room temperature as an apology. Check for snuffles in the coming hours and days, and see the vet if you find runny noses or rattling in the chest when breathing.

If mine are out and rain/showers have been predicted I pop some tarp over the top of the run's just in case, it give them sun protection and shower protection

No mine are generally in the house and go outside on the grass for a couple of hours when its nice (!) - well, you know how hard it is to find 'nice' weather at the moment! This was one of the nice days in March - before I bought their nylon tunnel. And this is a video of them last summer, when they were only three months old! So wee - Fred looks darker as well (George is skulking round the back) I used to put a lot more places in their run to hide in then as well....

Do a lot of you guys have your piggies outside in sheds or huts or something? All of mine except one are in a shed. They go outside in runs on the grass when the weather is nice. I know what you mean about the humidity, we've currently got some American friends over and they come from Florida where, apparently, people actually move away from during the summer because it gets unbearably hot.

Ugh I can't imagine Florida. Florida is one of THE worst I would say. I don't think I could handle living down there. But actually we just got a rain/quick thunderstorm and it has cooled down quite a bit. I'm pretty happy bout that.
