I just found this on a website, and wondered if anyone had seen it anywhere or tried it out? Hutch HempReason for Editing: Added the lightbulb icon to the thread and make it a sticky- PigPog

Ooh, thats interesting! Alot of people bed horses on hemp (I used to have a horse many years ago) It is most commonly used in terms of horses, for those which have dust allergies or COPD and cannot be bedded on straw. Many people use it instead of sawust (again in terms of horses) as it is more absorbent, does not get as heavy when wet, does a better job of getting rid of niffs and is more degradeable than sawdust and straw if I remember rightly.
In terms of piggys I suspect I would be a good fairly economical bedding, especially if bought in bulk. If theres a saddlery near you, you should be able to pick up a full bale for about £5-6 quid I reckon.

I wouldnt recomend Hemp becuase it is quite hard bit like chips of wood, I worry too much about it getting stuck in my boars man bits and actually thinking about it the ladies too. As their feet are quite sensitive I would say it was a little too hard too.
I think it is a little bit like but harder chips not very soft. Good for tortoises.

I wouldn't put young tortoises on it... we had one who ate herself to death on Aubiose and it basically cut her to bits on the inside. Of course she might just have been an odd tortoise, but we don't risk it with the ones we have left. As for the guinea pigs, if the hemp is like Aubiose I think it would probably be a bit hard and poke the boys in all the wrong places.

Hi there, Im new to the forum and I have to say that I love it. It is so helpful. I have 4 girls in a 7ft by3ft pen. I use news paper to line it and about 2inches of aubiose on top. I love this product as I used to use it for my horses. The wet soaks straight through to the bottom and the poo stays on top. I then poo pick twice a day and once a week sift through the whole bed and remove all wet and make sure all poo is removed as well. (and obviously replace the newspaper). This saves a lot of money on bedding as i dont need to replace it all once a week. Im not sure if this will help any one but thought I should share my experience!!!
