What methods do people use?
With my cavies being inside and the flies coming in they are bloody annoying! I have sticky fly papers but I was wondering if anyone has used a fly zapper either battery or mains. Is there anything that isnt safe to use around the cavies?

We tried a fly zapper, honestly don't bother, it did not work at all.
We use fly spray, but we are careful not to spray it round the cavies too much.
Citronella is meant to help, and would be safe round the guineas as far as I know, but is not safe around birds.

I know that dynamite for small furries (not the explosive stuff) contains citronella? I have used this on my piggies in the past but that doesn't really answer your question.

I stick dangly fly paper up all over the shed and usually get them stuck in my hair. I also have an electric zapper which gets the odd fly but not so many as I want. I also have mosquito mesh up at the windows so I can open them without flies coming in. Actually, the best fly killer I have apart from the dangly sticky things are the spiders. I've got a big one that Simon has christened Claus (don't ask! ) and he seems to be having a whale of a time.

Oh poo. I just let my basil plant die 'cause it was getting too gangly. I'll have to try and revive it! Oddly enough since it went brown we HAVE had alot more flies in...

Thanks Lisa, I'm going to be trying the recipe in the link you gave us. I'll not spray it on the piglets themselves but I'll definately try it in the hutches and on the carcass of the hutch block. I'm wondering is there anything I can plant around the shed to put flies off?

Well they say sweet basil which is a easy one and you could grow it in pots and chamomile not sure what that looks like but I think I may start investing in these things.

I thought chamomile was lanky with little yellow flowers.... someone (like my mum Meggiepiggy, or ES) will come on here and tell me it's something completely different!!!
