It's that time of year again, and I've got ants in my hutches. I forgot what I did last year... any ideas??

Are they after the food or are they nesting?
If nesting, clear out all the important things (like piggies!) and destroy the nest by pouring boiling water from the kettle over it (use a steady directed stream). If they're after food I don't know, but to keep them off greenhouse plants my dad used to stand the tray feet in saucers of water. They can swim, but don't like it. Don't know if that'll help...

Ah yes, we get this problem, they somehow get into our first floor flat I've found that pets at home do these funny green dome things with jelly in that you put around on the floor and it kills the ants. Do you have a Pets at home on Jersey? If not, I will see if I can get some and either post them to you or bring them when we come over.

Doris - We don't have P&H but if you can bring one over (at short notice I know, I forgot this thread was here!! ) that would be superb. If not then our "mole man" has put ant powder all around my shed in a big circle to try and get rid of them. ES - I'm not sure what they're doing. I think they might be trying to nest because they're under the bedding and disappearing into the holes in the wood my hutches are made of. Simon loves pouring boiling water over ants (we rarely see him so happy ) but it's a pig (excuse the pun) doing that in nine hutches. I remember once we had to turf them all out of the hutch block and I had spare cages stacked up all over the shed with confused pigs in them!!!

No problem at all, off to pets at home tonight to see if they have any, failing that I do have one that I can bring, but would be good if I can get you a pack of two to call your very own Was going to bring them eventhough you'd not said yes!

Cheers Bobbers, I know where I'm going then!!! I have to say I think the "mole man" might have cured the problem at the moment because I haven't seen the wiggly bum of an ant for a few days... you didn't happen to notice any when rummaging around my hutches did you?

No, no wiggly ant bums, just wiggly piggie bums

I've just tried the PAH website as they appear to do postal deliveries, putting ant killers in the search box gives me 2 items - a pink dog squeaky toy and mineral cupcakes for small pets - I did try again, but didn't get any better results
