i have been worried about cookie and biscuit feeling the cold this week and i think i have the problem solved !
i have got a cover for the hutch and they now have underfloor heating!
i have a two tier hutch, i shut them in the top part at night. anyway, my other half, Ray, has fitted a tube heater to the roof of the under run (the bottom tier) which will stay on all the time.
its not really warm in there but it definately takes the chill off. so, i think we have cracked it!
has anyone else done this with theirs? was it a success??

Hiyah It sounds fine, and very thoughtful! I would only worry in case it overheats at any time as they would be trapped in the heat, but then I worry about heaps of things to do with the care of small furry animals. I'm sure that before long you'll get someone answering who actually knows what they're talking about ;D

Hi, Hows this working as i am tempted to have something similiar for my wheeks. Although i am looking at putting the tube heater in the compartment where they are, so it will get nice and warm for them. I have hunted around and www.gil-lec.co.uk seem to offer really good prices.| What wattage did you get? How much did you pay? Any ideas on what sort of costs running it 24/7 would ramp up? Sorry for all the questions, its a great idea and i wanna do the same

~Snail wins prize for most useless posts~ It sounds like a great idea ... but yet again I will say that you will soon hear from someone who knows what they're talking about ;D

hi! the heater was my dads idea. he has a boat that he goes to, to do work on at the weekends and uses tube heaters on there to stop any damp etc in this weather, he said it costs him next to nothing to have on, more or less the same as just leaving a light bulb on all the time. i bought mine from argos (GET tubular heater 80w ) for 29.99, probably cheaper somewhere else though. it says that it has automatic cut off should it over heat. i wasnt sure where to position mine, with the hutch having two levels. i just wanted to be sure they couldnt reach it! probably would have been better on the ceiling of the top level really, instead of the ceiling of the bottom level. but, it does take the chill off , the floor of the sleeping area is warm for them to lie on! so far so good anyway, seems ideal to me.
