I am just having words with Planning because they told me it was ok to build my sheds and now they are querying (6 months later), whether they actually comply. Anyone had any trouble with putting sheds in gardens for Guinea pigs, and do we have a any guidelines for what you can and cant do with a Shed. My understanding was 1. More than 5 metres from house 2. Less that 4 metres high at apex (3 metres if flat) 3. Doesnt cover more that 50% of garden 4. Not used for Pidgeon loft. Mine falls well into the guidelines but I am just wondering if anyone else has had any "shed drama's".

As far as I am aware wooden sheds are a 'temporary structure' so they are fine, people can complain but there isn't much else they can do.

I'm not sure about your regulations, but over here it's ok within the size you used. We have a large chalet for the piggies and it's permitted with the garden area.

You have to love planning departments. The rules down here on Jersey are far more strict and I managed to get a whole spa chalet built to house mine in, so I'm surprised they're making any sort of fuss about building a shed up there. Have you looked at the website for your local area? Or called the council for some info on local planning laws? If you have the paper in your hand with the rules stated clearly, then you've got something to wave at them if they keep being difficult.

Yes, its all about the definition of temprorary structure. If it looks permanent, it might not be...... and vice versa. Some of the rules are really daft these days, but planning officers are overworked, underpaid and reviled, so be nice to them.... (I'm not saying they don't deserve to be reviled.......but some of them are very nice and helpful!)

well, she phoned and we had a bit of a chat. I said I had already spoken to them before we actually even bought the sheds and she seemed to think it may well be within the restrictions. She is coming on Thursday morning, so we will see then. I just hope we pass the inspection. Fingers crossed.
