Hi Kathy, welcome to the forum. First of all, please be really sure that no one on this site is ever going to come down on you. We are here to help you, not judge. Experts on the site may make suggestions on what they would consider best practice, but certainly not be mean about your decisions. If you only have one piggy this is fine, but as they are such social little creatures, it then falls to you to be their best friend, so as much interaction you can have with him will make a huge difference. As for all the different sounds, your first video, mine do this if they are on the floor and looking for the toilet! and the second one sounds like a little pig having a great time and chatting away to you, wondering why you are not chatting back. here are a couple of mine, but others will come along to give you more ideas. The easiest is loud wheeking when preparing food. Which is pure excitement. The longer you take, the louder it gets. Jumping up and down and turning round "popcorning" is excitement Rumbling, teeth chattering are warnings to you or other pigs to say get away or assert dominance. when they are on your lap, they can be silent, or little inquisitive wheeks (I think they are saying "whats that then?" especially during floor time). Purring on the lap is also deep contentment. Mine do this if i rub their ears, tummies or under the chin. I hope this helps a little. And please dont be affraid to ask anything here. It sounds like you are doing a great job with your little Mr Nibbles. He sure is a sweetie.

The first video, that is "I am frightened" or sometimes is used as an alarm call. This was probably because he heard your birds - and it was something new to him that he had not heard before - you'll find that he will get used to having the birds about.
The second video, this is happy noise - please stroke me some more noise.
The wheek wheek that you describe generally means "feed me NOW" but on occasion is a happy noise, we have some that do this in the bath, and in this instance I think it kind of means "look at me!"

Hi Kathy and welcome! My Nibbles is one gorgeous piggy! The others know more about piggy sounds than me as I've only had my two about eighteen months. Mine make that chattering noise if there's something to be warning each other about - I think I heard a dog barking before he did it - mine do it if they hear the birds with alarm calls, even if they cant see anything to be worried about! And the wheek or whicker when I'm stroking them too - different sounds, and dififerent voices, it seems quite individual, but its the same sort of chatter. I think talking back to them is a good idea! (but then I talk to mine all the time.... ) Look forward to hearing much more about the Adventures of Mr Nibbles!

what a beautiful piggy i would say the first video noise is him seeking reassurance due to bing startled/scared slightly. mine do this if i drop soming near them or another sudden noise. and the fact that he ran to you shows he wanted his mummy for reassurance. the second is deffinatly chattyness....my cookie does this non stop when being snuggled. hope this helps :-)

I've not had my piggies long, either, so I'm still trying to figure out their noises, too. When I get them out to have lap time, they usually don't make any noises, unless the piggie still in the cage is calling to the piggie in my lap! When I have Sam in my lap who tolerates my stroking him, be sometimes gives me a quick rumble if I stroke too close to his bottom. He doesn't really give me any happy noises to go with, though, so although he's quick to tell me what he doesn't like, it's not so easy to tell what he likes.

yes right now he is by him self but hopefully in a few months we will be getting him a friend so please do not down us for only having the 1 pig he Don't worry Kathy, as Lisajayne has already said we're not here to judge and many of us have single piggies who are happy and well looked after. I currently have 5 boars who all live alone, one of which refuses to live with company, three are very hard to pair up since losing their companions, and the last one I've only had for two weeks and I've yet to discover if he might live with one of the other three. So believe me, the recommendation is definately to give them companions of their own species but it is possible to have happy piggies who live alone but have their owners for company! ;D
