My little guy is now about 7 mos. old and everyone else sees that he's getting bigger but me. He has one of wooden hidey houses with an entrance and 2 holes--one as window and one on roof. My husband thinks I should get him the extra large hidey house--that this one's too small. Snuggles loves to push his nose up against the roof of the entrance=-which usually moves the house around. I'm questioning the need for a bigger one because of one of the photos I saw of someone's cage on this site. It looked like someone had a hidey house that this biggy piggy was sticking his neck out of. Feedback, please, my lovely piggy-loving friends, Wendy

When I first got my boys they could sit side by side and look out of the entrance to their grassy hutch. They gradually grew up and now only one can sit comfortably in the hutch and curl round to look out So I got them a second grassy hutch which I line up terrace-style But they do like pushing them around and rearranging their furniture... In fact the last few weeks they have had them quite a long way apart. They've also chewed off the back of the first one I gave them so they can still sit in it side by side and they have a back entrance for it too - so you can see the back of the cage through the left hand one, and George has come out of the side door they made! They can occasionally squeeze themselves into one hutch but there's usually an argument about it and the house takes on a life of its own. So it rather depends on whether Snuggles can get in and out ok and lie down in comfort - he doesnt need a lot of space - just enough. Reason for Editing: wrong photo

When Rolo was a baby we used to give him the boxes from teabags! He used to rearrange them how he wanted, generally not where I had put them!!!
The other thing you could try (depending on the size of your cage) is old cardboard boxes. Best ones are the crisp ones that have a hole in them where you get the crisps out, although a little big for just one.

I agree, I think boxes and hay are possibly better than some of the houses on the market.... piggies not likely to get stuck going through a hole they've got too big for, for example!

I use old veg boxes as they are made of really thick cardboard and it takes a while for them to nibble through it. I turn them upside down and cut a door way out, they usually eat most of the box but why not make it their own, lol!!

I was being super cheap when we looked at house for the pigs. other than I didnt want them to have places to hide, so they got used to us being around. We got drain pipe and cut it to lengths. Its too hard for them to chew and is easy cleaned, but they love running from one end of the cage to the other, and diving threw the tubes. When piggies have been sick we have given them little houses to hide in and we use sweet boxes from our local co-op, and they work just fine. Someone said somewhere about not having a bottom in the pigloos or houses because its hard to clean them out and I totally agree with this. we cut the bottoms out of boxes and they last longer

Hi all, Sorry to take so long to get back to you but I was working hard volunteering/campaigning for our new President-Elect-Barack Obama!!!Yay!! We are all so excited here in NY and all over the world it seems. Feel so much hope for all. I did end up getting Snuggles the bigger hidey house and he seems really happy in it!! I see what you guys meant--he climbs in and out of the bigger hole and opening with ease and he really has space to stretch out in it!! The only thing I'm not thrilled about is that it takes up more space in his cage (which is fairly big). He pushed it to the middle--so he's got this road running around the outside of the cage!! He's actually done some running when I p layed some games with him with dandelion stalks--to get him to get some exercise.!! He seems very happy--sleeps peacefully inside the home (on this little pillow thing I got him) and outside the home. I'm just trying to get him out of the cage to give him more exercise! I've got to be careful of his little poops, this sir poopalot! I had him climbing on me on our couch next to me and my husband and he crawled off the towel and deposited "little gifts" between the pillows--yickk. Luckily, it is an easily washable microsuede. I was almost ready to give him a diaper. There is no way he's at all interested in using any kind of litter box, but I love him anyway!! Sorry I haven't put up any pix yet. I'm missing my digital camera and I'm worried that the quality of my phone photos would be awful. Love to all, Wendy

Don't worry about the length of your posts...I'm sure someone will have a private word if they get too long for the forum! My boys have theirs in the middle of the cage too, and the run around is a good thing - they have great chase games round and through their hutches. I'm glad that all your hard work volunteering was rewarded. Fingers crossed for next year (and the three afterwards!)
