Some of you will have learned from other threads that at the moment Nimrod has a ruptured/punctured eye ball. I thought I would post here our experience as hopefully it may help someone in the future. Below is a picture of Nim's eye on the worst day (Sunday Evening) We took her to the vet (knowing what she had done as a week previously my friend had the exact same thing happen to her pig and asked me to go to the vet with her for moral support - she is quite new to piggies). The vet did say that Nim may lose her eye or her sight in that eye, but was keen to try to heal it first. I have been treating it twice daily with fucithalmic eye drops, and we have seen a considerable improvement. Nim's eye today. Nim herself is absolutely fine. Shes been popcorning (namely on my laptop keyboard!! ) eating, being nosy, and it does not seem to bother her at all.

Brilliant thread Doris. I have never seen this before and would be panicked if I suddenly found it in one of my little ones. Its a great idea to post pictures is disorders to help anyone else that my find they have it in one their own and can know what to do about it.
I have to say, poor little Nimrods eye did not look very pleasant, but you have done a brilliant job restoring her to normal.
What was the cause of it?

I wish I knew how she did it! The same applies to my friends piggie who had it a week before.
Its not totally back to normal, if you look carefully on the second photo you cans till see a bit of a lump.
She's going back to the vet later today - wish her luck, I am quite honestly dreading it!

Thanks Lisa. Back from the vets, and the prognosis is quite good. She thinks it will regress totally, and possibly leave a scar on her eye (which would be visible on the surface), but should be fine, she did say I should continue with the eye drops for another 7 - 10 days, and to go back if her eye goes yellow at all. She did also say she would have a "leison" in her eye, but this does not affect her sight (as I should know as I've got one myself This is only seen when you look actually into the eye with special equipment.
