i was cleaning out my piggys and i noticed that Roo my 2 year old pig seems to be blind. she is normally VERY hyper and chatty. but now her movements are slow and cautious, she is quiet and seems very unsure of herself.
she isnt eating with the others when i gave them their tea (she is usually the first one there)
any help would be greatly apprechiated.
what can i do to help her?

It would be very unusual for the sight to go in both eyes this suddenly.
Have you had a look in her eyes? Do they look normal?
Try taking her out on her own and offering her food that smells good, bannana or apple is a good one to try. you could also offer another not so smelly food (carrots is a good one) and see which she goes for.

Is she bumping into things? Do her eyes have a blue cloud over them? She might have been developing cataracts which will make her vision worse. Guinea pigs have pretty bad sight anyway, so cataracts don't usually make that much of a difference to be honest.
It might be that she's feeling under the weather. Is she all puffed up? Is she wobbly on her feet?
Is she eating anything or does she attempt to eat without success?

she is a smooth piggy if thats what you mean.
she doesnt seem to be bumping into things but she is very cautious. she doesnt seem interested in food what so ever and that is just not like her at all. i wouldnt say she is wobbley on her feet just uncertain. i will check her eyes now......would her pupils reacts to light still if she has gone blind?

No, by Satin I mean she has a very shiny coat, like an unspoilt lake. If she was blind, her pupils would not react to light. Sounds like there is another underlying condition rather than her going blind. This is a satin pig - you can see the sheen on his coat.

Took her to the local vets, they can't diagnose for definate but narrowed it down to her breathing and think she had an 'episode' of some sort as she's not using her back legs properly. She has been given a painkiller and antibiotics and some food solution to feed her on, she has eaten some and drank some water via another syringe, she just looks very tired now. Got an appointment tomorrow so just got to keep our fingers crossed.

Mr M and I are so sorry about Roo We lost a couple of piggies some years ago in similar circumstances - it is never an easy thing to come to terms with. You must take comfort knowing that you gave Roo a lovely home while she was with you..........
