I emailed northerncrop driers about the small black bits in some bags of the Zorb and this was their reply; In reply to your e-mail regarding the quality of the Megazorb you have received. Earlier this year we were forced to change our production technique due to an enforced alteration in the fuel we use to dry the Megazorb. The particles you have seen are a completely inert ash produced during the drying process. We have noticed the particles and are trying to come up with a technique to minimize them as they do alter the appearance slightly. They are an inert material and will do no harm to your guinea pigs. So for all who were worried about the mystery black bits, they are safe and will not harm our pigs hope this helps

Thanks Lisa, I would never have thought of emailing them about it.
I find the bags are quite variable in the amount they deposit - none of them a problem though, and some none at all.
By the way I've just started the 9th bag of the ten I bought in April, so I reckon they'll have lasted me just under 9 months when I get new stock. Which will work out at something like £80 a year instead of the - what was it - £780 for the equivalent amount of Carefresh??
