Well, sadly, my Cavy rescue is not going to happen. Sadly my allergies have gotten much worse all of a sudden. Just bringing Pumba from his cage to the outside pen has me sick. I was thinking about maybe instead of going with Cavies having a Hamster rescue. 1. I am not allergic to them, and 2. I have owned them way before I got Pumba, so I have much more experience and houses/toys/etc. for them from all the Hamsters I have owned. I hate allergys. -.- Sadly they may cause me not to be able to own another Cavy after Pumba passes on.

Oh Mal, that's tough for you - both the allergy itself and what it means. But you are a good-hearted person and I know whatever you decide you will put the welfare of the animals right at the top - and there's plenty of time too. Is it possible you might grow out of this allergy? I know some appear and some disappear when you get older....

Never heard of that, but maybe you can. I just had a thought that if I started a Hamster rescue, and when I was older, and like you said, maybe grow out of them bring Cavies back in.

Hi Mal
Don't give up on the piggies just yet. When we first got married my husband was allergic to the cat we bought - we asked about it and said we had planned to have two cats, and the doctor said to go ahead and that Alan would either get immune to them quite quickly, or become so allergic that they would both have to go.
We bought a second cat and he became immune! It didn't take that long either. With one cat he was in great discomfort, but with two he was ok.
I'm not saying it happens all the time but it certainly happened for us!

Poor Mal. Can you not get something from the doctor? You can grow out of allergies I think, just as you can acquire them in later life. Well, even if you don't have any more piggies after Pumba, you're always welcome here, pigs or no pigs.
