I made the difficult decision not to take in any more rescues this year a few months ago - not just guinea pigs but all sorts of animals I rescue. Anyway just had a call from work (Pets At Home sorry for swearing lol) saying 2 guinea pigs had been found in a cardboard box in the park. Of course I've gone straight over and picked them up - and they are delightful. We have a little de white teddy sow and her friend (or Mum?) a beautiful big chunky cream self sow. We've named them Susie and Harmony and they're happily tucking into their food right now. Luckily they don't appear to have been mis treated in any way they are both good sizes, fit and healthy but how could someone just abandon them in the middle of no where?? Imagibe a dog had found them first......no actually don't it's a horrible thought. Honestly as long as I live I will NEVER understand people I will take some pictures soon, they are totally awesome piggies Reason for Editing: Changed thread title from caps to lower case - PigPog xxx

well here come the pictures, as you can see, not your average "rescue" cavies, in fact these 2 are so well kept I'm really concerned someone could somehow be missing them?? The cream self sow is (at a guess) around 8-12 months old, show quality and even been groomed she has no guard hairs at all - very odd for pet guinea pigs found in the park The de white Teddy sow is also in excellent condition but I would guess 4-6 months old and not groomed but otherwise looking fabulous. The plot thickens........ I was in my local pet shop today and they asked if I could take in 2 female piggies that a customer of theirs was no longer able to care for, I said I wasn't taking rescues but I'd phone the lady and find out if she found homes for them or not. Could they be these 2 do you think or is this just a HUGE co incidence??? Sittingbourne really is a one-horse town, it's very small and almost everyone knows everyone so if it's a co incidense it's a jolly big one - someone help - Doris are you getting all this dear???

I wonder if you are right, hmmmm would it be worth ringing this woman and seeing if she does still have these two piggies, and just dropping into the convo the question of what breeds they are/were, then at least we'd know if they are the same piggies.
If they are not, I still think you might be right, but how on earth are we going to find the owners?
Bob has posted an ariticle on the freecycle cafe, but has not included actual details of the piggies, just in case we get just anyone saying that they are thiers. He's said basically if you have lost two guinea pigs in the sittingborne area to contact us.

Thank you Doris (and Bob of course) I'm going to put similar notices up at the local pet shop, Pets At Home and the 3 vets in our area but I'm also not going to put their photos because I'm also worried just anyone will say they are theirs.
Doris could you post on the "other" forums please as I'm only here and gpw, thank you.
Will let you all know what happens, in the meantime Harmony and Susie are blissfully unaware of the storm they've managed to create and have settled in really nicely bless them!

They are absolutely beautiful and very well kept - I think the stolen idea must be favourite - I mean if they'd spoken to someone about not being able to care for them any more they wouldnt dump them....surely?
And they are so well kept - look at the length of the cream ones nails....

They are absolutely beautiful. I'm stunned that anyone could dump them. I live in Sittingbourne too and don't know that many people with GP's, so cant add anything useful to where they could have come from, but..........One question that came to mind .... whats the chances that they weren't found in the park, but that the person who wanted to get rid of them took them to PAH pretending to be person who found them, rather than the owner? Seeing how beautifully groomed they are, the person who owned them couldn't have had the heart to dump them, so maybe pretending to find them and hand them in to the place they would have been best looked after would make sense. It may be worth asking PAH and the other pet shop for descriptions of the two sets of people and see if they're the same! Definitely agree with ringing the person from the Pet shop to see if she still has the ones she wanted to get rid of. Good luck, let me know if theres anything I can do to help. Lisa
