Just an update for all of you who have been following my other thread (Should I neuter my boar...?), thought I'd let you know that as I said, after all the excellent advice, we decided to introduce a baby friend to our 18mth old boar Roger..... So today we collected Theo (named by my husband and son after Theo Walcott), a 6 week old, blonde crested boar! ;D He is gorgeous and very happy to be handled which is great. We introduced him to Roger in the bath (as suggested by someone - no water of course tho!) and there was a lot of chasing, rumbling and mounting (?), but no big punch ups so, so far so good.... They had about 10mins together. They are now back in seperate cages, but next to each other so they can still see/smell each other (and in the same room as our females Poppy and Rosie, as this is where they will need to live). Will put them in the bath again tomorrow (or in my new indoor pen if it arrives!) and a few more times over the next couple of days, before finally putting them together in their permanent cage, i.e Roger's Does this sound like a good course of action - would be grateful for more advice! V. Soz about the long thread!

Sounds to me like you are going in the right direction on this one But do remember to keep a pair of protective gloves handy should it become necessary to intervene - hands can sometimes become punctured in the heat of the moment as Pigpog found out to her cost Can't wait to see a photo of Theo

Yes, sounds good to me, when you do eventually put them into Rogers cage, make sure you clean it very thoroughly first, this gets rid of any of Rogers' smell so he doesn't think that its still his bachelor pad

All good advice! especially about the gloves They can scratch quite nastily too in a fight, so have the usual piggy medications handy for possible damage to eyes and noses and that kind of thing. Having said that, you are following the safest route of introducing them to each other, and it sounds good. Good luck with the integration.

Thanks guys! Yes, I made sure I had some gloves handy just in case - saw the pictures of pigpogs injury - ouch! All still going well - had them in the bath again yesterday and much less chasing and rumbling this time - though Roger still mounted poor little Theo (tho it lasted seconds! ;D) - is this part of asserting his dominance and will it stop gradually? They seemed quite friendly to each other - sniffing nosses and sitting near one another, so hopefully all will be well... The 'big day' ie putting them together in Roger's cage, will be Friday (as I'll be home all day) - will def make sure I give the cage a scrub first and will let you all know how it goes...

Mounting is quite normal, it may continue, or on the other hand it may not. When Oliver met Magic he mounted him, now he doesn't. Harry Jnr on the other hand mounted Dudley when he first met him, and now does this on a periodic basis. Then there is Whizz and Russell who mount each other more or less daily, and they always return the favour!!

When you clean the cage give it a wipe over with vinegar...gets rid of any pee stains and sure masks any other smells. I usually wash it with water again after but it'll leave enough whiff to confuse a piggies nose.
Fred occasionally mounts George - telling him to move over sometimes when he's in Fred's favourite spot! Its more of a 'jump on' than mount, I think!
