I picked up 5 rescues today, in good condition..phew! It's always a risk! 5 sows, up to 2 years in age. They had been pets and the children had lost interest. Going to quarentine and handle lots for a month, and then they will go with some other piggies I have got at a 'pet zone' at a play area. I'll then check on them monthly. A happy ending I hope. and for a change, from someone who looked after them fairly well before rehoming them.

Seems a regular thing, kids lose interest. Always the excuse on preloved. Personally I wouldnt let my kids lose interest!! Theyre not like toys. They are living creatures! Shannon is 4 and she gets hers out regularly for cuddles and I get her to feed them too. Shes a bit young to do cleaning out but she does help me. Shes animal mad though. Shes completely smitten with one of baby boars at moment and I am letting her have him as a pet so she now has 4 of her own. At a week old he is still only 50g. Hes a little dot but is starting to gain weight at last. He lost 7g in 1st week and I thought we would lose him but hes a little fighter.

There is something special about a little fighter isn't there There is also something special about teaching your children to love animals and to take on the responsibility of caring for them. But I guess animals just don't have enough knobs and flashing lights for some kids...........

Excellent work Amanda I'm so glad your kindness has been rewarded by having a fairly easy rescue this time.

Nice job Amanda, I'm proud of you. I have no idea how kids lose interest either. Having said that, I think that if you really don't "want" your pet anymore then it's better for the pet to go to a family that wants them around.

Unfortunately yes kids do loose interest! I think that a parent should not buy a pet for a child unless they want the it for themselves also and are prepared to take full responsibility for it, otherwise the animal ends up being rehomed or in worse case scenario neglected!! Luckily in this case the piggies were well cared for!! And hats off to Amanda for taking them in!!
