Anyone know of a source for Megazorb in the US. I'm in the New York (Northeastern) area, but a mailorder source where I wouldn't have to pay overseas shipping costs would be great!
I'm a big fan of aspen shavings, along with other things. Thanks.

They don't list anywhere outside the UK on their web site, but you could email them and ask. There may be someone who makes an equivalent product in the States that they can advise you on, too. www.northerncropdriers.co.uk/stockists.htm

Iv been using Megazorb for about a month and in the last two weeks have found that Cookie has developed a funny little wheeze when she breathes, and Kenny does a weird little "cackack" cough every now and then. I have changed Cookie back to woodshavings and hay and a dose of Vicks on the chin each day and she seems better but not completely cured. has anyone else had a reaction when starting piggies on Megazorb. I am thinking of changing to finacard as I hear the dust is much less of a problem.

I changed from dust-extracted woodshavings to Megazorb and I have noticed less coughing in general. It may be that yours are perhaps sensitive to dust and a minimal dust alternative such as Finacard might be for you. Oh and I think "cackack" is an excellent way to describe a piggy sneeze. Have a carrot!

I couldnt get hold of Finacard straight away so bought some Ecobed and changed all of them to this with heaps of hay. Kenny hasnt had any sneezes or coughs since, and even though Cookies breathing is better, it still sounds a bit snuffley. The Ecobed was brilliant value and theres tonnes of it. I will pick up some Finacard next wheek and see which they prefer. As for the Megazorb, at the bottom of the bin, there seemed to be a black fine powder. I only noticed this when I got to the bottom of the pack, so I think this is what's made Cookies breathing strange.

Lisajayne - that black powder sounds really strange. I don't think I've ever seen that in one of my bags, and I've had quite a few. Perhaps it was an odd bag?

I do get a little black grit and dust at the very bottom of my cage. As long as it's right at the bottom with lots of megazorb on top I dont think its a problem. Both Fred and I were slightly snuffily in May when I started using it as their main bedding, but we both cleared up with the help of olbas oil and I think we've both been clear ever since. And it could have been any number of things that caused that as it was the pollen season.
I confess I dont clear it ALL out more than once a month; the dirty bits are picked out daily (sometimes twice if there's a concentrated area!), and Fred at least has been known to use his litter tray. I do a larger sweep up and paper change weekly, but the paper underneath also doesnt get as soiled.... I know there's a danger of mites and stuff through not changing bedding more often, but as they seem to have very clean and healthy coats and skin, maybe the megazorb is helping to keep those sort of problems at bay?
They both seem very happy with it anyway.

Do you know of an equine supplier nearby, or are there any in the phone book? Megazorb is mainly used as a horse bedding so most large horsey suppliers should stock it.

I get quite set in my ways, so I'm still happy using it, although I think I ought to sweep up more often - I'm treading it through the house. The thing is when I used just hay I had to sweep up every day, which I dont now, so it does seem to be less messy - it's me that's the messy one. Some bags do seem more dusty than others but this may be because I've been storing it on its side so should bring it into the house by the cage before I need to open it so it settles more. None of us seem to have any breathing problems though. I've also become a fan of fleece which the boys have in their upstairs run. But I dont wash it as often as I probably should... and washing does actually work out quite expensive what with the cost of water and electricity these days (mind you, it would probably wash well by hand)!

I am so undecide now as to whether to change or not - have been unable to source a local Megazorb provider so would have to order it online - cheapest I can get is around £18 for 2 bags incl delivery - may give it a go. can always go back to the paper and hay! (tho am fed up with v soggy paper after just a couple of days! Will let you know what I decide!
