He's looking a bit fluffed up this morning but let me bathe his wounds (after a struggle to turn him over but he eventually worked out it was best to lie back and think of England!). He ate up his breakfast and I've let them back together with a towel over most of the area so he can still avoid getting bits stuck on him.
It was nice to see his nose sticking out of his hutch when I came in with the shopping just now!

So, a few good signs there for George, bless his little cottons Give him an extra special stroke (or cuddle when he is not so sore) from Auntie Meggie and Uncle M. He is such a good boy.

You're right, he is a good boy - I tell him that all the time!
I've just bathed his wounds again, although they were quite dry unlike this morning when they were a bit messy. He didnt appreciate it, although I thought he was very restrained seeing as I had my thumb right in front of his mouth and at one stage I though he might take a bite out of it! I'm mainly holding some saline soaked cottonwool to his wounds to dry and bring out some of the dried blood, but it'll form a scab so I'm not too worried. I'll check with the nurse when he has his injection tomorrow.

A very emotional morning as I came down to find Freddie standing by George's hutch looking worried and Georgie stretched out flat in it. He was warm to touch so I calmed down a little, but when I tried to move him he squealed loudly and sort of hobbled over to the other hutch and lay down again. I found the vets wouldnt open for another hour, but for a £100 callout fee before then I reckoned he could wait while I got dressed, even though there was another long loud squeal, so I took him (and Fred, who was standing guard) to the vet first thing, moving him onto a small tray to carry him in case there was some sort of leg damage. Bless my vet she saw him straight away, and wouldnt you know it but he stood still and upright and moved all his legs properly. She reckoned he was just trying to impress her, though, and didnt doubt that he was having trouble. It is another likely effect of blood infection. He's now had his antibiotic and also a painkiller/antiinflammatory injections (he squealed for those too!), and is home again, eating breakfast like nothing has happened (so the painkillers must be working). He even won the tug of war with Fred over their favourite leaf! He'll be staying with Jan, one of the nurses from tomorrow lunchtime till I get back from my Paris meeting, so I know he'll be in good hands and get all his injections ok. Fred's going too. Keep fighting, Georgie boy.

Good grief, they know how to make your heart miss a beat, dont they. I'm glad he's feeling a bit better now. And bless little Freddie for standing guard, it must be worrying for him too. At least they are both happily munching away, so thats a good sign. We're keeping our fingers and toes crossed for him.

Don't you just go through the mill with poorly pets A good photo you've taken there...............apart from the obvious, it's good to see him tucking in. At least he will be well looked after at the weekend and you won't have to worry any more than you will anyway (if that makes sense). Do the nurses look after poorly pets to earn a bit on the side do you think. Not a bad idea, if you think about it. Does everyone (including the pet) some good Do try to switch off for a bit while you are away - easier said than done, I know

he seemed very low this morning so have had him cuddling on me since 8. turned his nose up at food earlier - lying out with head down, but has just looked around and taken the corn husk i had handy. fingers crossed
About ten minutes after this post he perked up, and I decided to put him back in his cage and give them some feed. I left them both tucking in to their fresh leaves (and George into a little bit of corn cob).
Dont they just put you through it?

As I had to go away for a two day meeting and George needed antibiotics every 48 hrs he's been staying with one of the vet nurses (Jan) since Friday. I went to see him this morning, the plan was to bring him home, but Jan suggested she keep him for the weekend as all but one of his abcesses seems to have drained, clean and clear, so she was going to have a go at the last one and keep going with the antibitioics for a few more days. He was sitting around, looking bright and cheerful, and doing anything that Jan wanted him to without a struggle! I think he's best to have the best possible chance of getting rid of these things completely, so he's staying in the nursing home. Fred looks extremely grumpy about it, but agreed to go along too! I think he heard the mention of a possible manicure while they were there.... (I didnt mention massage or aromatherapy to him though!)

Thank goodness for that! We were chatting about George on the moderation board and we were getting worried. Well done Jan for her hard work, she's a real star. Please pass on my admiration to her. Good thinking to keep him in for the rest of the week, at this stage it's best to let the professionals have a go at him, especially if Jan's already managed to get rid of most of the abscesses it sounds like she's on a roll.

I agree!
Frankly I am amazed that George is still with us. I really, really, really thought he was about to turn his toes up on Friday, but as the weekend went on I thought we were in with a chance.
It would be great if I could get Jan to come on here - she's great!
