I try my best The spray would be ok on anything thats not near openings (eyes mouth etc) Its very good for kids who want to go swimming with open wounds too! (I always carry several tins when going on adventurous guidey type holidays!) I must admit I was lucky, Harry Jnr was fantastic, he let me bathe his wounds with no trouble at all, poke him about and take photos. 4 short weeks after his accident he won Best Pet in Show at Tendring 100, and honestly you'd never know (unless you noticed the ears thing!) I love your new boy, he is very pretty

;D He sure is, isn't he. OK I am biased but he really has got a very cheeky little face. He went to the vet today who also thought he was a little cutie pie, until she tried to check his wounds and he turned into a little devil. He's certainly lively! For this reason we have name him Taz as he actually puts a Tazmanian Devil in the shade. The vet gave him some antibiotics even though his wounds looked ok, so just in case he's got any infections. so, so far, so good.

Taz went to the vet for a checkup yesterday and I came out feeling very queezy. Even with all the bathing, ointment, antibiotics etc he still managed to get an infection. I said to the very that he was a bit stinky (Taz, not the vet) and he checked out the scabs. The biggest scab was swollen and he said it was probably infected, so we'd need to remove the scab. (anyone with a weak stomache should stop reading now). Quineapigqueen said this could happen and I was sure I had done everything everyone suggested but still it happened. Sooooo, as he removed the scab, the most horrible yellowish puss came out that was seriously stinky. I felt faint, so goodness knows how poor little Taz felt. He poked around in the hole and got a huge suringe and some liquid metadine and started to squirt it into the hole. Til it shot me in the eye! The liquid actually pushed two other scabs off and started to spout out of the them. Little Taz just sat there, he was so brave. On the third go of flushing this stuff out of him, he started to squeal like he was being tortured, which made me feel even worse. He said we needed to keep doing this for him, twice a day and he should be fine. Let this be a good lesson the everyone out there whose little ones suffer bits. Removing scabs and cleaning is very very important.

I've just put him back in his bed in "sick bay". He still has this horrible puss type stuff coming out, but at least its not healing over it. He squirms and it makes me want to cry. He was sooooo good today. Rob holds him while I do the squirting, and he kept turning his head round to see behind for what was going on. Any other piggy would have attempted abit of a bite, but not him, he was more curious than defensive. When we finished, he curled up like a little dormouse on my lap, in a fluffy towel and with one eye peeking out, went off to sleep. It breaks my heart to know what he's going through, when it could so easily have not happened in the first place. He really is a very brave little pig.

It sounds like the other scabs what puss and cleaning solutions came from are all linked, probably one bite. One scab for top teeth and one scab for bottom or viseversa.
I am glad its getting flushed out and it should start to heal soon, poor mite!

I've had times where I've needed to do something unpleasant to make a pig better, and sometimes it really isn't fun for us to do. I guess the saying "you have to be cruel to be kind" is appropriate for these occasions. If the pus is still coming out then that's very good because it's not being contained under the skin which would cause further infection. Is he still on antibiotics, and I assume your vet is still in the loop? He's in good hands with you guys and if he's turning his head around when it hurts but not biting you, then I think it means he trusts you and really doesn't want to bite you even though he's in pain. The cuddles are very good afterwards because he really needs lots of fuss to help him through it all - don't we all when we're not feeling well! It's going to take time for an infection that's this deep to heal and go away, but you're doing the right things and you seem to have a good vet on hand there too. I would call your vet next week to tell him how Taz is doing - he might want to see him again and I'm sure some vets love to be told how their patients are doing (both of mine do!).

He's just finished his morning clean up. There is still a hole but no muck is coming out now. It flushes clear and he eats his cabbage while its happening so it seems to be loads better. He is still on the antibiotics and he LOVES them. ;D They smell like banana and I just show him the syringe and he starts licking and chewing it. He has another appointment with the vet today so I am really hoping that he says he's over the worst of it and is getting better. He has really wild hair so its hard to see the rest of the scars but the main one thats been infected is still quite lumpy and bald, so Im guessing its scar tissue around the whole of the "tunnel" hole thats still healing inside. I will let you know what the vet says today. I agree with the "cruel to be kind" but you really find out what that means at a time like this and I have had tears streaming down my face when he's squeeked badly knowing I had to carry on, and thought we werent getting anywhere but today is the first day I have thought it looked so much better that I cried again (what am I like?) from the relief that it was working and had obviously been worth the drama. Not long now and he should be able to go back with him friend Mr Magic, whose wondering where he went. Fingers crossed.

Im going to nominate this little piggie for a bravery award. He is such a little soldier when it comes to be de-scabbed and re-flushed. We are now down to one flush a day and two sets of anitbiotics so its definitely improving. What seemed to be a huge lump inbetween the teeth holes, is now much flatter and he only has two holes that the liquid squirts out of instead of three so also a big improvement. His squeeking now sounds more like normal "dont touch me" squeeking, rather than "Ahhhhh, you're trying to kill me" squeeking. Definitely a difference! Last night, after his ordeal, he sat on my lap eating veggies and thought he'd get his own back and pee'd all over me and sofa! He must be thinking, you squirt fluid in me, I'll squirt fluids on you! Sounds reasonable. Anyhoo.... he's on the mend so I am very happy.

Its a happy day today. The vet gave Taz the all clear today. His infection is gone and so no more picking and flushing of his bites - hurrah I'm sure he is super happy too as he can go back with his friend Mr Magic. It's seemed like a long road to me, but it must have been longer for him. Im so happy that he is finally fit and well. I cant stop kissing him, and he just sits there, raising his nose to have it kissed. He probably thinks its better to suffer being kissed constantly than picked and flushed! So thanks everyone for your support, advice and encouragement. It made all the difference.
