You may actually get better results with a younger boar - not so set in his ways. I wonder if neutering makes a difference too...........let's not go there Ben is neutered and the new boar is not so will may just find out. Tanya

Litter trays Diary Conclusion of training older boars and sows I have found that the Sow got the hang of it but the boar did not will have to try another boar. I have to say that it seems to save money but will let you all know at the end of next week as i am keeping the sow that got the hang of it going with it to see how much money can be saved.
I will be starting up with the youngsters tomorrow. I will post photos of them too. Tanya

I have only managed to have a quick flick through this Tanya, but I'll be able to sit down properly and read it when we get to Sarasota tomorrow. So far it looks like a very interesting read and I may get a tray or two myself when I get home to Jersey in a couple of weeks. I hope you're feeling better and keep up the good work. I think this is very useful for everyone.

I have finally managed to sit down long enough to read the entire diary. It's great Tanya!! I'm so proud to have this on my forum, it's so helpful. In response to your question, I would personally like to see more trials with boars. As my mum said before, I have some well behaved boars and some real stinkers. They are all different ages too so I would be really interested to see if age makes a difference in boars especially. If I could get my absolutely disgusting brothers Ted and Dougal to use a litter tray at the age of three, then you'd hear me whooping for miles! I have eight hutches worth of boars so litter training them would be such a help.

You know, if my Mum had told me when I was a young whippersnapper that 'One day, Sue, you'll be avidly reading a thread on a forum about litter trays for pooey guinea pigs', I do believe I would have Actually if someone had said it to me last week I would have but I have to say it's a fascinating test. You should call it the P Factor Your comment about the lid is a great one meggie ;D, and Pigpog - I had no idea you had two three year old brothers Seriously though, this is an excellent thread and I know from Pigpog's back-breaking work in the herd pens at least, that this would be a major breakthrough - I wonder if it would be more likely to work with a herd? They are a bit like sheep sometimes, so perhaps if one learned they would all copy? Just a thought though.
